Drying time will vary depending on the length of your hair and thickness of the individual strands Ė whether they are coarse or fine. Hair that is damaged or porous will often take longer to dry. Hair that is straight, fine or thin will typically dry more quickly, but there are ways to shorten the drying time of even very thick hair. After cleansing and conditioning, blot and squeeze the strands with an absorbent towel. You may want to invest in a super absorbent towel that is designed to pull more water from the hair than a normal bath towel. ( Towels That Dry Hair Fast) Blot, donít rub. Your hair is very fragile when it is wet so rubbing often causes frizziness and split ends.
It is usually not beneficial to try to speed up the drying process by using a blow dryer. The force of the air disrupts the natural wave of the hair and promotes frizz.
Using a diffuser helps to speed the process although better results come from total air drying. If you must us the diffuser, stop before your hair is completely dry.
Heat lamps or infrared bulbs help to dry your hair faster and do not disturb the curl pattern. Be careful not to get too close to the bulb and over heat your hair
The products that you will use for air drying will most likely be different than the products you use for blow drying. Take this opportunity to try different products. Build body and fullness naturally by using your finger tips. Gently rub your scalp in circles, lifting the hair. Donít run your fingers all the way through the ends. This will also help to speed drying time by allowing air to reach the root area.
Naturally straight hair will generally air dry straight. If you prefer to see a little natural looking wave, experiment with large pin curls held in place with jaw or alligator clips in your damp hair. Allow your hair to dry naturally or use a diffuser before removing the clips.
The front or bang area is generally the area that you wonít be happy with. Use a curling iron or blow dryer and brush on the bangs to soften the look.
