This time out, I have the latest in Shelly Laurenston's shapeshifter series, The Mane Attraction (Brava), out now. Sissy Mae Smith is stuck in New York City for her brother's wedding, but at least her best pal Mitch Shaw is there with her, keeping her (and her shapeshifting family and friends) entertained. Then someone takes a couple shots at Mitch, and Sissy takes him home to Tennessee so he can mend away from the people trying to kill him. Sissy and Mitch banter and tease throughout the first portion of the book, building up an interesting chemistry, and then, once they're in Smithville, things start to get even more interesting: Sissy's old boyfriend is back in town, and, while she wants no part of him, he has other plans for them. Then there's Sissy's big, sprawling family to trip over everywhere they turn. But when Sissy and Mitch finally get past the best friends-hands off thing, the pages start scorching your fingers. Mitch is just as charming a hero as Sissy's brother Bobby was in the previous book in the series, sexy and funny, and just Alpha enough. Plus he's a lion. What's not to like about a lion? Sissy, well, it took me longer to warm up to her as a heroine. After all, Laurenston did such a good job making her not so nice to Smitty's bride last time out, I didn't want to like her much at the start of this one. But by the end, I enjoyed her quite a lot. Throw in some quirky, nosy aunts, squabbling siblings, and a would-be killer, and this one is a wild ride. Laurenston made me a full-fledged fan with Smitty and Jessie last time, and this one was nearly as fantastic a read: it's earned four of Cupid's five arrows. And next month, we get her next G. A.
