Be #1 on Google Book Review

As bloggers we want our blogs to be noticed. Each day there is hope that we’ve reached a few more readers than we did yesterday. Monitoring traffic is more commonly done in Google Analytics. A code is plugged into a blog or website and traffic is counted. Even more exciting is all the ways Google Analytics can report important information to you regarding who is reading your blog content and how they got there.

Bloggers find these reports fun and informative. It is important to know though, that they are invaluable to the success of a blog if they are trying to make money on the internet. With a little know how, they now have the ability to improve their blog.

In addition to bloggers learning so much from Google Analytics reporting, they can learn what to do with a lot of that knowledge in Jon Smith’s book, Be #1 on Google – 52 Fast and Easy Search Engine Optimization Tools to Drive Customers to Your Web Site.

Be #1 on Google is a compact guide offering quick and easy solutions for bloggers, website developers and businesses to use to improve their search engine presence. Search engine optimization (SEO) can greatly improve your traffic reports in Google Analytics. You can enhance what you are doing right and improve where your blog is weak.

It is easy to recommend this book because it is short and sweet. With 52 tips or tools (the author refers to each as an “idea”) you can pick one or more a week and be done in at least a year. Each idea is about two to three pages. They can be read in any order. Pick and choose at will what you think you need work on or something that you think might compliment information you gleaned from your last Google Analytics report.

The best side of this book is that in addition to Smith showing a blogger what they can do, he also shows them what they shouldn’t do. It is important to know what you could be doing wrong and also what you don’t have to waste your time doing. Everybody may have an opinion on SEO and no two individuals could be right or wrong on the same topic, but these ideas help in the organization process allowing a blogger to decide what is important to them.

To be clear, this is not a guide to Google Analytics, but definitely a resource to find ideas about how your site works and brings in the traffic that it does. Of course the flip side of that is being able to learn new things to bring in the traffic you want that your site doesn’t bring in.

Jon Smith is also the author of Grow Your Business with Google AdWords, another Google product to advertise your business online to users of Google.
