The rules for Memory or Concentration are very simple. No matter how many people are playing, it is a game where all cards in the layout are turned over face down. Players guess at two cards, turning them over, one by one in hopes of creating a match of equal value regardless of suit. When two cards are matched, they come off the board.
To keep score if you are playing solitaire, keep track of how many turns you take as you make matches. This can be done with a pen or pencil and paper. Two more more people keep score by counting the cards that they take when they make a match. Whoever has the most cards is the winner.
This game can be played as a solitaire game where people can improve on how fast they can get all the cards matched up. Once you have mastered certain levels of card layouts, it is time to move on to a more challenging level.
Should you play the game with more than one person, you should start the levels out with more cards to give everyone a fair chance. If it is made too easy, the game gets boring and stops quickly.
Another layout challenge could depend on the ages of the people playing the game. If there are children playing, you may not want to make a very big layout. If teenagers are playing, the layout should be more challenging. Adults may want even more cards in their layout.
The playing layouts can be made with as few as 16 cards in a 4 x 4 grid. This will be for the younger generation to start them off. Other popular grids for layouts include 4 x 5 for 20 cards and 4 x 6 grid that makes a total of 24 cards.
More advanced layout grids will consist of more cards as in a 5 x 6 grid or higher. If you really want a challenge, try two decks.
To start making a smaller layout grid, you will first need to figure out how many cards you will need. Take a regular card deck and make sure you have matching pairs of numbers or face cards. Shuffle the cards well before dealing out the grids.
Whether you are playing solitaire with this game, or playing with a friend, it is sure to be interesting and a great way to pass the time. It can be repeated as many times as you would like to play.
