Coffee Spot Alert-Buttercooky Bakery

Establishment:

Buttercooky Bakery
217 Jericho Turnpike
Floral Park, NY 11001
(516) 354-3831

The moment I turned the corner I was surrounded by heavenly smells. I surrendered willingly allowing myself to be carried along with nostrils wide and visions of cakes and pies dancing in my head. I could have closed my eyes and found this front door with no problem.

In the Long Island suburb of Floral Park just outside of New York City, there lies a bakery known as Buttercooky. Try any one thing amongst the hundreds to choose from and you will understand that bake is what they do. Not only are their wares tasty (which is really the most important part) they are true works of art. If you can contain yourself long enough without taking a bite, you will marvel at their beauty. Cakes with patterns generally reserved for clothing and delicate lacy sculptures on top that often defy gravity will leave you wondering, “How did they do that?”

DOUBLE CAPPUCCINO TREAT

But you know I am all about the coffee, liquid or otherwise. So I asked for a cappuccino and struggled to stay focused as I went in search of a pastry that contained coffee. I found the most adorable little Chocolate Cappuccino Mousse Cake, just right for one, with a dark chocolate coffee bean set in a tiny sculpted dollop of mousse on top. Perfectly shaped, there was a top layer of mousse with the cake on the bottom beautifully decorated with one of Buttercooky’s signature designs. This cake comes in full sizes as well. The attention to the tiniest of details here is just amazing.

THE TASTE TEST

First, let me talk about the cappuccino. From the foam with a shake of cinnamon on down, it was some of the best I’ve had in a while. Not one to add sugar to my coffee, I didn’t meet with the usual sharp bitterness when I got past the foam. I was impressed with the smoothness and flavor of it all. Now I know I usually make a fuss about real cups, saucers and spoons, but I was so blinded by beauty and taste, I really didn’t care.

I took a fork full of the Chocolate Cappuccino Mousse Cake and stopped dead in my tracks. The creamy mousse, the chocolate cake--I was speechless. It was deliciously creamy and flavorful. I know that none of this was on my diet, but let me say in my defense that I didn’t have lunch and the cake was a small taste of heaven. Besides, how often do you get a chance to have your coffee and eat it too?

CONSENSUS

In my neck of the woods, whenever you mention Buttercooky’s in Floral Park to anyone who has tasted their wares, the response is always an animated wide-eyed one. They surely have my vote.
