In this small community where I live they have many promotions and every year for the first two weekends of December they have what is called the Christmas Stroll. They welcome shoppers to our many gift shops and we provide entertainment, home shows and a parade is the first thing that opens these events. This year our Golf Club was asked to participate in the parade with decorated golf carts.
This happened that our Mill Creek Community Association (I write their newsletter) became involved with this and voted to offer three prizes for the best decorated golf cart. These three and a few others would join the parade at 5:00 on Thursday evening of December 4th. One of our members agreed to work with the golf club and promote this event. They will have a time to decorate their golf cart and be judged before the parade.
The Association offered three prizes to encourage our golfers to enter this contest. Our first prize was a dinner for two at a gourmet restaurant here called Inn on the Creek. Our second place prize was lunch for four at a café called Roy T. The third place prize was a breakfast for four at a new café called McCain’s Bakery and Cakes. We hope these prizes will get our golfers out and decorate their golf carts.
Living in a small community does not mean we do things in a small way, we have many artistic people living here and they all like to be involved. The Christmas weekends are filled with shoppers plus many golfers at our Golf Club. We have all kinds of entertainment for our visitors with another I am involved in. The Community Chorus will be having our Christmas Concert the same night as the Parade. This makes it impossible for me to enter the decorated golf cart event.
I have made several posters to post around our club house so people will be aware of the prized we will be offering. It is up to each person to decorate their cart however they want, they can also throw out candy if they so desire. The also can have children or grandchildren ride along with them if they are the winners.
Our parade route is fairly long and will have a variety of floats, bands along with a fire engine and headed by the police car opening the parade. We usually have a grand marshal who is picked for their volunteer work in the community and will be riding in a convertible. Our streets are lined with spectators and this is why we wanted our Mill Creek Golf Club to be entered followed by our decorated golf carts. It will be two busy week ends and we welcome all our visitors.
