Hello, and welcome back! This little preview of winter weather we've been having here has been giving me plenty of reading time, which means I'm nearly through the November releases here. And, honestly, in my off-line time, I've actually sneaked into the December books, because there were a couple I simply couldn't wait to read, and I can't wait to share them with you here. But that has to wait until we get through the last few of the November romances, which will be this week.

This time out, I have Mary Burton's newest romantic suspense, Dead Ringer (Zebra). Detective Jacob Warwick's latest case has the potential to become a real nightmare: a dead woman with no clue to her real identity or her killer. Just her body on a building site and a necklace with the name Ruth on it. Then another woman turns up dead in the same manner, which is very bad news. Worse, these women look alike, and they also look like local anchorwoman Kendall Shaw. Even before her assignment to cover the murders, Kendall's been suffering lately from nightmares that leave her sleepless, and crossing paths with Jacob doesn't do much to help that situation. Add in her pregnant best friend with her own problems, and Kendall's life is a little bit shaken up at the moment. This one starts off with the killer, which always makes me a little leery: is it really romantic suspense, or is it a mystery? And this one is no simple plot, but a complicated mass of threads to weave the whole story: Kendall and Jacob, her friend Nicole and her burgeoning relationship with the new police detective, Kendall's missing past, the murderer. Yes, there's romance, but not nearly enough for readers who prefer more romance than mystery in their romantic suspense. And, ultimately, not enough for me. Even the way the ending wrapped all the threads up disappointed me. However, if you're looking for a great mystery with complicated characters, grab this one right now. I've borrowed only three of Cupid's five arrows for this one.
