With the holidays fast approaching there is a mad dash to find the perfect gift for everyone on your holiday list. If you are like most folks there is probably a gadget geek or a geek to be on your list that has you stumped for the perfect gift. Listed below are some gift ideas that will be sure to please the geek without breaking the bank.

Gifts for Geeks

External Hard Drive
For any serious geek or computer user an external hard drive is a much needed accessory. It can be used to easily backup files, photos and data or used as additional storage by attaching externally to most systems via a standard cable.

Even if your geek already has an external hard drive an additional drive can be used for additional backup functionality and for off-site storage of backups.

USB Flash Drive
A geek can’t have to many USB flash drives laying around. They can be used for data backup, file transfers and presentations. Like the external drive the flash drive is attached externally to the system but does not require a cable just a USB port.

Unlike the external hard drive the flash drive it travels easier as it fits in a pocket and does not require a cable.

Laptop Bag
If you have a geek that travels a lot or commutes everyday a good quality laptop bag can be a great accessory. When selecting a bag make sure it will accommodate the length of the laptop and provides additional storage for the power supply and any additional accessories such as an external mouse.

Other features to look for are padding to protect the system from damage and if purchasing for someone with a bad back consider a laptop backpack or a bag on wheels.

Laptop Sleeve
Another option for your laptop geek if they already have a laptop back is to get them a laptop sleeve to protect the laptop regardless of the bag that is used to transport the laptop. The sleeve is typically made from neoprene and can come with a handle so it can be used by itself for carrying a laptop.

UPS Backup
If you live in an area that has frequent power outages or have a geek that works on sensitive information then a UPS backup is an ideal gift. UPS stands for uninterrupted power supply which is a battery backup for a computer system. If there is a power outage the battery backup will power the computer for a limited amount of time so it can be properly shutdown to help prevent data corruption or loss.
