Demon's Hunger (Grand Central) is the second in her new demon series. This time, sorcerer Dain Hawkins is on the trail of a killer, and he needs help. Anthropologist Vivien Cairn has been having some issues lately: losing track of big chunks of time with absolutely no idea what she's been doing during those periods, and when Dain arrives, her libido goes absolutely wild. Dain knows something even bigger than he'd imagined is going on when demons and hybrids are also at Vivien's isolated house and attack. When the fight is over, he takes Vivien with him, assuring her it's for her safety, when in truth, it's at least as much about the very interesting feelings she's stirred in him. But Dain won't allow himself to get deeply involved with another mortal, not with his past, so he tries very hard to keep his emotional distance, even if his own hormones have also kicked into overdrive. For Vivien, this whole situation is even more frightening. For a woman of science, suddenly being told and shown that there is magic in her world that she never knew about is a shock. That the discovery also comes with the most amazing man she's ever met would make it a little better, but she can't seem to control herself around him. And she's still in grave danger, not just from the demons, but from the mysterious things happening to her. This one has an incredibly fast pace, whipping the reader from Vivien's disorientation over her lost hours to the initial attack, to plunging her deep into Dain's investigation in a short period of time, keeping you turning the pages to find out what's going to happen next. There is also a high level of sensuality in this one, from the moment Vivien and Dain meet, that lasts all the way to the very end of the story. And the twist of what exactly is happening to Vivien is intriguing, adding a great new level of possibilities for this series. This is another fantastic addition to Ms. Silver's collection of romances, a definite keeper, and likely one paranormal fans will want to reread. I'm borrowing four and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one. Can't wait for the next!
Until next time, happy reading!
