Some Garden Quilt Patterns

Garden quilts are irresistible. These allow gardeners to combine their love of gardening and crafts. When it comes to choosing your garden quilt patterns, here are some wonderful patterns from JWD Publishing, a leading publisher of quilt patterns.

For 2009 JWD has released a delightful new series of quilt designs called Oh Sew Charming!. These mini-quilts are made with five inch fabric squares.

The series includes several by renowned designer Mickey Depre. “Wild Flowers” measures 22½ inches by 35½ inches. Suitable for beginners, it combines appliqué and patchwork. The design depicts twining vines and garden angels among pieced blocks. This has full size appliqué templates and a list of the materials needed. The designer offers versions in three different color schemes.

This has step by step, illustrated instructions from beginning to end. There is a layout chart showing each completed block.

“Bee Charmer” by Depre is also part of the Oh Sew Charming! Series. This shows lattice supporting flowering vines in full bloom. The blocks and borders are pieced, while the flowers are appliquéd. This delightful mini garden quilt is 32½ inches square. The pattern includes actual size appliqué templates. There are full color photos showing close ups of the quilting pattern.

This pattern has complete, easy to follow directions for cutting and completing the blocks. The layouts show how to assemble the top and add the borders. This also covers all the quilting basics. There is a chart of the fabrics needed.

JWD has also released “Rabbit Tracks” as part of the Pictorials series by designer Charlotte Warr Andersen. This would be a delightful wall quilt for spring. It is also suitable for children’s rooms as well.

This combines appliqué and piecing techniques. It depicts bunnies munching on grass. The designer chose spring colors, including greens and pinks. The pattern includes instructions for two sizes—a wall quilt, and a twin bed/large crib quilt. This gives a list of fabrics needed for each size.

The pattern has complete, simple and easy, illustrated directions for every step from making the blocks and adding borders to quilting and adding binding. The designer also gives suggestions on choosing fabrics.

The pattern includes instructions for three sizes. These include a baby quilt, a lap or twin quilt, and a queen/king size bed quilt.
