Eye Strain Headaches

Do you spend a lot of time on the computer, playing video games or reading books? Or, how about a lot of time in front of a television? If you do chances are you have strained eyes. Blurred vision, frequent tension headaches, eye fatigue , dry eyes and even teary eyes can be symptoms of eye strain. Eye strain has also been shown to cause nausea, dizziness and even double vision but more importantly has been linked to glaucoma and other eye related diseases. There are several ways of improving your eye health, let's take a look at some of these.

*If you read a lot of books, try taking a break every 30 minutes.
*Extended computer use is fine but try to take a break every hour.
With both of these try to focus on something far away every so often, give your eyes a shift in focus. Closing your eyes for a few minutes can also help. Your eye muscles need to relax too!

*Try an anti-glare computer screen or anti-glare lenses in your glasses.
*Use a larger pc monitor and increase the font size of the text. Also, white and black colors are best when reading on the pc.
*Your eyes need nourishment too, try a daily multi-vitamin.
*Always make sure when reading you have adequate lighting. (If using a pc, position your desk lamp away from the monitor and away from your eyes. Direct light from a lamp would only cause more glare).
*Keep your eyes moisturized. Frequent blinking or some of the over the counter eye drops will help.
*Palming your eyes will help them feel rested also. Try closing your eyes and placing your palms over them for about 30 seconds at a time. (wash your hands first)
*Warm tea bags placed on your closed eye lids are very soothing and help relieve tired, irritated eyes.

If you are not currently using prescription lenses and you have frequent eye strain headaches it may be time to see your eye doctor. Tension headaches can sometimes be confused with eye strain headaches but if you are experiencing blurry vision, tired eyes or even eye pain the doctor can help. There are glasses available for just computer work and with the help of your doctor they can be tailor made just to fit your eye problems. Even if you think your eye sight is perfect, there are glasses to help reduce the glare from a pc monitor and reduce eye strain and in turn reduce those headaches.
