Border Moonlight

Hello, and welcome back! Remember the big, fluffy snowflakes I was watching the other day? They actually amounted to about two inches of snow! At last! Of course, the weather guessers at the local television stations hadn't predicted that. Surprise, surprise. And it's been cold enough since then that the grass is still mostly covered, though I imagine that will change in the next couple days. Oh well. Perhaps we'll see a few more inches of snow before this winter is finally over. I sure hope so!

And speaking of over, this time out, I have the last of the January romances to share with you. Amanda Scott's Border Moonlight (Grand Central) is out now. Lady Sibylla Cavers turned down her first groom at the ripe old age of fourteen. The next year, she left Simon Murray at the altar as well, and he vowed vengeance on her. By the time they meet up again, she's spurned a third groom and has settled on a spinster's life. But when she guides her horse into a swollen river to rescue a child, she may have to rethink those plans of hers, for Simon rides to her rescue, despite the animosity he still harbors for her and her very public humiliation of him. And now that he's got her at his home of Elishaw, he has the perfect opportunity to humiliate her and get his revenge. If he can only stop thinking about how lovely she is, and how much he'd like to touch her again. But Sibylla hasn't forgotten their earlier encounter either, and she knows he doesn't mean her well now. Their families have a tangled history, too, that neither of them realized, which will complicate things even after both admit to feelings for the other. Filled with details to delight historical fans, this one is a sweet story, with two headstrong protagonists who're bound to find a way to make their wishes come true, all of their wishes. But they have to deal with a bit of a mystery and some people with political intrigue on their minds before they can settle down to a happily married state. This one was a pleasant way to while away a snowy afternoon, though I wouldn't say I found it a keeper. I'm sure some of you will feel differently, however. This one's earned three of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
