Ten suggestions for tough times

First, let me point out that times are not s tough as the hysterical newscasters seeking ratings on both "news" radio and the television would like you to think. We live in a very small rural city. The company my husband works for has so much to do, they can barely get through the day. They designed a new controlling device that makes products more energy efficient and safer. They have so much work they can barely keep up.

I am sure they are not the only company in existence with a rising business in a world seeking energy efficiency.

Many other people I know know lots of others in the same situation. Hardly the Apocalypse. (laugh)

What most people should do is:
1) Calmly evaluate their personal situation.

2) Check to see what "fat" can be cut from the budget. Perhaps you can cancel
that cell phone or go to a lower plan.

3) Cook from scratch. Its healthier for you, and cheaper too!

4) Walk more and use the car less. Carpool or combine trips while driving.

5)

6) Check your car insurance and other policies to see who has the better rates.

7) Try and pay off a credit card at a time.

8) Pay a head on your mortgage, or try and buy a modest home you can pay off quickly. Get out of the "rent trap."

9) Store non-perishable food for a "rainy day."

10) Learn what free entertainment is available in your town.

If you follow these suggestions you will be able to get a handle on your financial situation and not be dragged down by others problems in a erratic economy. You'll own your own home and car. You won't have debt. And You'll have food saved. I realize this is only the beginnings of a dream for many people, but I think this is what we should strive for.
