SoGospelNews.com announced the nominees for the 2009 SGN Music Awards to be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009. The event will take place at the River of Life Church in Smyrna, Tennessee and is free to the public. As in year’s past, the nominees were chosen by the staff of SoGospelNews.com. Starting on February 1, 2009, the fans will get a chance to vote for their favorites in each category.
”It’s hard to believe that this is already our seventh year to put on these awards,” mentioned Deon Unthank of SoGospelNews.com in a recent press release. “Every year the staff does a tremendous job of picking the nominees. This year is no exception.”

As far as nominations go, for the second straight year the Booth Brothers led all artist nominees this with 10 nominations. The Booth Brothers were nominated for Song of the Year (“Welcome to the Family”), Album of the Year (Room For More), Male Group of the Year, Best Live Performer, Fan Favorite Artist of the Year, Progressive Southern Song of the Year (“Welcome to the Family”) and Progressive Southern Album of the Year (Room For More). In addition, Michael Booth was nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year, and Jim Brady was also nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year as well as Songwriter of the Year (Artist).
Three artists earned eight nominations apiece – they included the Dove Brothers, Karen Peck & New River, and Mike & Kelly Bowling. All three of those artists landed in both the Song of the Year and Album of the Year categories.
Following behind those artists was Gold City with seven nominations. The Perrys and Talley Trio both landed six nominations. Several artists received four nominations – including Crabb Revival, Greater Vision, and the Mike LeFevre Quartet.
The Freemans, The Isaacs, Misty Freeman, Legacy Five, and the Kingsmen all earned three nominations, while the Collingsworth Family, Dixie Echoes, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Eighth Day, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, HisSong, The Hoppers, and Triumphant Quartet all received double nominations.
Songwriter and producer Barry Weeks earned the most individual nominations for his work during 2008. In addition to landing in the Producer of the Year (Professional) category, Barry earned an additional six nominations for her songwriting and producing this year – writing the hit songs “Hello After Goodbye” (by Legacy Five) and “Welcome to the Family” (by Booth Brothers) and producing the Booth Brothers’ recording Room For More.
