Stamping Polymer Clay and Wire Book Review

This book covers the very basics for beginners in the medium of polymer clay in a very easy to understand manner. you receive a quick overview on how to conditions and roll out the clay. Then you quickly move on to some of the ways to keep the clay from sticking to the rubber stamps when they are impressed into the raw clay.

It quickly moves on to the formation of beads, pendants, earrings, and other jewelry related items. Showing different ways to combine beads, polymer clays, wire, Pearl Ex and metallic leaf and foils. There are some beautiful and imaginative pieces shown.

The book goes on to show some polymer clay postcards and some beaded bookmarks. The polymer clay on the bookmarks is incidental, they use the polymer clay for bead embellishments hanging off of the paper bookmarks. The postcards are baked, then stamped, so it becomes just another surface to stamp on, although you can make some very unique looks with the clay.

The doll pins open up some possibilities for combining the two mediums, and they definitely have some potential. Decorative tins provide us with yet another 3D rubber stamping surface and can stand alone as art pieces.

This book gives provides you with a method for making faux ivory out of polymer clay and directions for a finished pendant and earrings. To complete this project you need to invest in a clay mold, which while not terribly expensive, is another tool you need to buy if you are just wanting to experiment with polymer clay.

Book covers are made using stamped polymer clay as embellishments. There are several examples, and some excellent ideas for journal covers. There is also a brief tutorial on how to make your own book.

It goes on to cover how to build a multi layer pin, and how to mix and color clays, and the various types of beads. The last section is on how to make matching jewelry sets.

This book does have patterns available for their projects, and some of the finished items are very pretty. It is a book for the person who has never used polymer clay before. If you have used polymer clays before you will find this book has no new information to offer. The entire book is only 35 pages long, and that alone should tell you how in depth any of the information is.

If you are a beginner with polymer clay this may be a good book for you, but if you are looking for a book that will challenge any ability beyond absolute beginner you will want to pass on tis book and look for something more in depth.
