This year, the mother and dauther duo, will be hosting the 19th annual Belly Dancer of the Universe competition. Take a trip to Long Beach, California for a chance to see belly dancers compete for awards.
What does it take to compete in such a competition? Take a look at some of the videos on YouTube. Just enter Belly Dancer of the Universe and several dancers appear. The performances are the best of the best.
Like all competitions, there are many categories to enter. There are categories for adults and kids. During that weekend, dancers will compete in there category for the top prize. Cash prizes, that is.
February 21 & 22, 2009 is when the event will take place. You still have plenty of time to make it to California. Right now, there are good deals on hotels and flights. Gather a group of gals, discuss, and make a trip.
Belly dancers such as Princess Farhana, Ninah Sahar, and Lee Ali will be there. There will also be ten master classes, split between the two days.
Competitions are great because belly dancers from all walks of life are there. Each has their own fire and unique dazzle. Belly dancers, in competition mode, take note of all that is there in front of them. Belly dancers that they like, become a mental note. Things not to do, or where, also become part of the memory.
It takes dediction, time, practice, and yes, money. When you know what competition you want to enter, preparation time should be months in advance.
There are different competitions. Some are new ones, which can be a little chaotic. There are competitions like Belly Dancer of the Universe that now in its 19th year, is a competition a belly dancer should enter.
Of course, the vendors. Costumes, jewelry, music, DVDS, zills, and other items a belly dancer needs to get her hands on. You can get great deals from vendors that have items from outside the United States.
Head out to California and be inspired by wonderful dancers. And if you are making the trip, let me know what you observed while there.
