A Highlander of Her Own

Hello, and welcome back! This morning's weather forecast made me wish we were in Maine, where the snow is currently falling. Here, however, we're just cold and very windblown, with no chance of snow the rest of the week. I'm still holding out hope that we might see a decent snow before the winter is really over, but I'm not holding my breath. Maybe next year we'll have a real winter again?

This time out, I have the final February romance to share with you (and already have a couple March books waiting): Melissa Mayhue's A Highlander of Her Own (Pocket). Ellie Denton has suddenly gained a birthmark and an odd ability to understand animals. Oh, and her mother's ex is trying to take her home away. Caden MacAlister has spent years preparing to become the laird of his clan, though he's had doubts lately about his ability to manage that. Now a strange woman appears, and he's certain she's meant for one of his brothers; he certainly doesn't want to risk a relationship, no matter how attractive the part-Fae woman might be. Of course, the Fae magic might have other ideas. I've enjoyed Ms. Mayhue's books since her very first, and I'm still enjoying them. I imagine with all of Pol's potential unknown female offspring, this series can continue indefinitely, which isn't a bad thing at all. Ellie had no idea there was such a thing as magic, and definitely no clue that she could be part Fae, but learning to use her magical gifts could be an even bigger challenge than convincing Caden to believe in true love with her. Caden has had plenty of challenges in his life, and resisting Ellie is probably the biggest, even as he's trying to save his brother's life and find his missing laird. But keeping his heart safe is never really an option, no matter what else is at stake, not with a woman like Ellie, and we all know it, long before he can admit it. After all, even the strongest Scot has a weakness. This one is fun, as were its predecessors, with just the right amount of steam and angst. Fans of the series will find it another keeper, and if you haven't started reading the series yet, hopefully this one will convince you to pick up the earlier tales as well. It's earned four of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
