New Orleans is one of the world’s most fascinating cities. It is loaded with culture and has arguably some of the best cuisines you can find anywhere. It’s always great to visit new cities, but the visit can be even better when you can enjoy some freebies. Here are a few free things that you can do when you are in New Orleans.

*Visit the French Quarter. New Orleans’ French Quarter sits alongside the Mississippi River. The architecture is a mix of French, Creole, Spanish and American styles. Be sure to bring your camera because the whole area is packed with vibrancy. Although there are tons of places to eat and shop, there is so much to enjoy just by walking through the Quarter and enjoying the sites.

*Visit Audubon Park. Audubon Park is located at 6500 Magazine St in the Uptown/Garden district. Admission to the park as well as parking is all free. The park features a swimming pool, a walking/jogging path, tennis courts and playgrounds. Audubon Park is also a great place to have a picnic and stop and “enjoy the flowers”.

*Stop by the Sydney and Wanda Besthoff Sculpture Garden. The Besthoff Sculpture Garden is home to over 60 sculptures from artists all around the world. In addition to enjoying the sculptures along the walking path, there is also a free audio tour that is available. The audio tour is accessible through your cell phone and it highlights twenty sculptures in the garden. The Sculpture Garden is located at the New Orleans Museum of Art at One Collins C. Diboll Circle.

*Take the PRC Shotgun House Tour. Start your visit at the Pitot House located at the Bayou St. John. The Pitot House is the only Creole colonial country house that is open to the public on Bayou St. John. The house is named after James Pitot, New Orleans’ first mayor after the city was incorporated. After starting at the Pitot House, you can take the self-guided tour and visit 8 other shotgun homes located in the area.
