Into the Badlands follows a warrior and a young boy who are attempting to improve their circumstances while on a journey. The series takes place in a post-apocalyptic time. Citizens have access to electricity but not guns. There is a ton of action and the lack of guns makes for some very cool fight scenes.
Different areas are ruled by Barons who control the people and all of the necessary goods. The feudal society is separated into workers known as Cogs, prostitutes named Dolls and warriors named Clippers. The series star is Sunny. Heís a Regent (a Clipper Captain) to a powerful Baron named Quinn. Sunny has a pregnant girlfriend named Veil who is a Cog. Sunny befriends a boy named M.K. Veilís parents are killed by Quinn to protect the secret that he is dying. However, Quinn ends up asking Veil to help cure him of his illness. M.K. has special powers connected to a dark energy and these powers make him a potentially deadly weapon if he falls into the wrong hands.
The Baron Quinn is married and has a son. The show highlights Quinnís weak relationship with his wife and son. Quinn is also engaged to take a second, much younger wife but she is having an affair with his son. Quinn is not very likable and he finds himself in the middle of a war with other Barons including a powerful one named The Widow.
*Great action and fight scenes. This is a bonus if you like martial arts.
*Interesting storylines. Beyond the action, the characters have a built-in depth that makes them interesting.
*Diversity. I always love when a television show reflects actors with a range of ethnicities.
*Because of the post-apocalyptic timeline, the show does not make use of modern technology. This might be a deterrent for some.
