Network - Off Season Suggestions

So in between shopping, eating, wrapping, singing merrily and making cookies you may sometime or another want to watch some TV. You should be able to enjoy some of the precious vacation time you took for the holidays. Right? Here are some suggestions for your viewing pleasure.

Burn Notice - USA Network (THURS 9 PM EST) this stars Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, Bruce Campbell & Sharon Gless. - A spy recently disavowed by the US Government uses his Special Ops training to help others in trouble. Sounds pretty standard, right? Like the A-Team meets Alias? You couldn't be more wrong. This show is creative, witty fun and intelligent. Besides, who doesn’t want to watch things blow up during the holiday season?

The Closer - TNT Network (MON 9 PM EST) starring Kyra Sedgwick, J.K. Simmons and Corey Reynolds. - The shows Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson is an outspoken, no BS, hard raw truth girl who’s sweet accent can charm the scales off a snake. She leads the Priority Homicide Division of the LAPD through a dense fog of evidence surrounding their most challenging cases. Her sideways ability to see through peoples masks and obtain the truth helps her team wade through conspiracies, suspects and evidence until they reach the ultimate truth. Snappy, hip and fast paced Kyra is always a delight, definite proof that an actresses ‘age’ has no bearing on their ability to make a statement!

Men of a Certain Age - TNT Network (MON 9 PM EST) - Ray Romano, Scott Bakula and Andre Braugher - Three guys dealing with life and everything that come with it. Ray Romano is a heartbroken divorcee who wonders why his marriage fell apart. Scott Bakula is B- Move actor trying to revive his career while managing his active libido and Andre Braugher is a family man working at a car dealership owned by his overly critical father. We follow these three college friends at their weekly hikes, meets for breakfast and other social activities. This show, while sometimes painful due to the sensitive content, Is wonderfully realistic in its portrayals of these charming and yet sometimes tortured men. This show is thoughtful, heart warming and yet challenging as we relate to the emotion and trials of human nature.

All three shows I have found to be highly entertaining and of quality content. They each have short stints in the off season break so you are not making a long term commitment. Set them up on your DVR and pull them out while building the Barbie plane in the closet or the Little Tikes bulldozer. You won’t be sorry.

Do you have a favorite off-season show that I didn’t mention? Send me an email about it and if I agree I will be sure to post a blurb about it in my next article!
