Spring is my personal favorite time of year. After the cold winds of winter, the rebirth that is spring never fails to bring a smile to my face. Those first warm breezes of the year, the greening of the trees, and the music of the songbirds returning from down south, are all part of this magical world of spring.

This renewal of the natural world is the best time for another renewal of sorts. It’s time to do some outside painting. Things like window sills, garage doors, patio furniture, mailboxes and little DIY projects like these. For touch up projects on anything that needs a little TLC, spring is the time to do them.

For any type of metal surface, make sure you take some 400 grit sandpaper and rough up the surface a bit. Then, get some good primer, like a RustOleum brand, and cover completely. Primer will dry fast, especially outside where the sun can warm it and the wind can blow over it. Use the power of nature in this way to put on 2 or 3 coats of finish paint. These coats will dry quickly outside, and you’ll be able to complete a project that may have taken days inside, which will now only take hours outside.

All metal painting can be done this way with superb results, just by allowing the wind and the sun of spring to lend you a helping hand.

These same natural forces will aid you with any kind of house or garage painting as well. Any latex type paint, for doors or windows, will dry in a fraction of a time, and if a second coat is needed, it can be applied almost as soon as the first coat has been painted on.

Painting posts, mailboxes, trim on fences, now is the time to do it. Get it done during the days of spring so that when summer rolls around, your handiwork can be enjoyed by you and anyone who visits. Besides, during those hot dog days of summer, it’s better to be lounging in a pool somewhere, then worrying about painting.

So, during this years spring renewal, think about all those little projects that need to be painted. You won’t be going at it alone either, mother nature will be there to help you every step of the way. Besides, there isn’t a better time to be outside then when the first warm breeze tickles your ears, the smell of tulips tickles your nose, and the beauty of the spring renewal, from chirping birds to blooming flowers, causes you to step back, enjoy the sight, and smile. It always makes me smile too.
