This time out, I have Christie Craig's Gotcha! (LoveSpell). Detective Jake Baldwin knows better than to get involved with someone tangled up in one of his cases, but the fiercely independent Macy Tucker gets under his skin, even before he knows she didn't help her brother escape from prison. Macy has no time for men in her life, and no trust that one would stick around even if she did let him in. She's too busy putting herself through school and working to deal with a man, even one as sexy and infuriating as Jake. But a killer escaped from prison at the same time as her brother, and Jake isn't going to let him anywhere near the irresistible Macy. It doesn't take long before he knows she had nothing to do with the escape and that he wants to spend a lot more time with her that has nothing to do with her brother and a murderer. The sexual tension between this pair is fantastic, enough to singe your fingers on the pages. Then there's the humorous dialogue between them, and Macy's family is a real hoot. Her grandmother is hilarious without being too over the top. Craig is funny without trying too hard (unlike some other, big-name authors whose names I won't mention here), which is a real pleasure to read. The focus of the story stays on the developing relationship between Jake and Macy, which is complicated with her past and his own messy history. But there's never any doubt they'll work things out just right. This was a really fun read, and I was sorry to reach the end. It's earned four of Cupid's five arrows. I look forward to her next book!
