This time out, I have the latest from fave Susan Meier, Maid in Montana (Harlequin Romance #4103). Sophie Penazzi's new job housekeeping on a Montana ranch is perfect for the single mom. But her new boss, the wealthy and divorced Jeb Worthington is not very happy about the arrangement, as he hadn't realized she'd be bringing a baby with her. Sophie and his gruff foreman persuade him to keep her, at least for a while, and Jeb is unwillingly surprised by how she makes his daily life easier. And, as a side benefit, far more pleasant, with the pretty Sophie to look at. Even the pain he feels initially when around her young son goes away a bit as he gets to know Sophie better. But Jeb's past is still too painful for him to let her into his heart, and he continues to keep her at a distance emotionally. Sophie is smart and upbeat, and even understands why he keeps that emotional distance from her. But she can't help thinking he might change his mind. Someday. Because, as she gets to know him, on the ranch and off, she sees the man behind the gruff exterior, and she's falling in love with him. Too bad that just means he has the power to hurt her even more. Sophie and Jeb's story is touching and sweet, and made me wish it were longer, because when Jeb finally realizes what he's missing out on, it's a fantastic thing to read. Susan Meier is, as always, a terrific writer who doesn't get nearly the recognition she deserves, and this is a fabulous addition to my Susan Meier shelf. It's earned four of Cupid's five arrows.
Until next time, happy reading!
