How many times have you said that if you could get muscle tone your body would be more attractive? I know I have, and Ive heard it spoken quite a few times. While we talk about having muscle tone, and making our bodies look better do we actually know what muscle tone is? What if I told you that there is no such thing as just toning up, would you be surprised? If you want to tone up then here is how it is really done.
The common definition of muscle tone is the visibility of your muscles which is also commonly referred to as definition. Having muscle tone means you can see the outlines of the muscles under your skin. We all have muscles but not all of us have a toned body.
Muscle tone is actually a reference to your body composition. We are covered in a top layer of fat called subcutaneous fat. Now here is the simple truth: If you have a high percentage of body fat then your muscle tone will not show through the fat. In this case you will have to lose body fat so that your muscle tone will be visible.
There are three things that will actually help you achieve muscle tone.
1. First thing is absolutely needed in order to have muscle tone and that is to decrease your entire body fat. By losing body fat your entire body slims down and perhaps underneath the fat are well toned muscles. However, it is more common for people to lose weight and realize that they are not satisfied with how they look and that is when number two becomes important.
2. The next thing you can do to gain muscle tone is strength training. The majority of people are going to need a fat reduction and strength training program to develop toned muscles. In order to gain muscle tone it is important that your strength training program focus on improving muscle strength. This type of training requires lifting heavier weights for fewer repetitions.
3. You have to include regular cardio exercise. While strength training burns fat, doing cardio in the beginning of your weight loss plan will burn fat faster.
So remember: Loss of body fat + strength training + cardio = toned muscles.
Always check with a medical professional before starting any exercise program.
Be healthy, be happy.
