For those gardeners on your shopping list, garden kits are a great gardening gift. There’s one to suit every interest and taste.
I particularly like the seed greeting card/note cards. In addition to greeting cards, these are also sold as book marks and gift enclosure tags. The seeds are embedded in the paper of the card. All the recipient has to do is place the paper in a pot and cover it with soil. These can also be planted outdoors in the garden soil.
The EcoGroline kits offer great choices. Items include the Plant Me Bookmarks and flower garden kits, such as corn poppy. There are also herb kits, such as parsley. The biodegradable boxes contain potting soil and seed. Just open the box and add water. The seeds will sprout.
The garden kits from Noted are just sensational. These are available in garden centers and other stores. For herb lovers, there’s the Petit Coco herb kit. The French-inspired containers are shaped like French casseroles and kettles. These come in two colors. The kit includes basil and mint seeds along with peat disks. Once the herbs are harvested, the pots can be used for other purposes.
Noted also has introduced several new Eggling flower and herb kits for 2009. These include petunia, mum, and several herb kits. The Eggling kits include a terra cotta saucer and an egg-shaped container. Crack the top of the ‘egg’ and you’ll see it is filled with potting soil and seeds. Just add water, and the seeds will sprout. The kits come with an extra pack of seeds.
Noted also has a new Christmas tree kit called Christmas in a Can. This kit includes a beautifully decorated can, potting mix, and Norway spruce seeds. Once the seedlings are large enough to transplant, they should be planted outside.
The Gifts That Bloom and the Cans That Bloom kits are widely available. These have attractive leak-proof containers, potting soil, and seeds of easy to grow species. There many of these kits to choose from, including a wide assortment of flowers and plants. The choices include a bonsai garden and a butterfly garden. They also have wildflower seed shakers with seeds of plants that are known to attract birds and butterflies. There’s a shaker for each state as well as ones for many cities around the country. These shakers contain perennial seeds of reliable species that will bloom year after year.
Potting Shed Creations has a number of gardening kits, including some new ones for 2009. The Bamboo Grow Box is a bulb kit. You can choose from two different kinds of amaryllis and paperwhites. The box is filled with organic potting soil with organic coconut husks for drainage. The attractive, natural colored, round box is reusable. Remove the cover of the box and add water. Then, the bulbs will sprout. The gift kit is decorated with ribbon made from recycled plastic bottles.
