Get Organized for Gardening

The cooler weather of fall renews our spirits. It enables us to tackle fall clean-up in the garden and accomplish those unfinished garden projects.

Fall is also a perfect time to get organized. Proper organization will save you time and effort. Think of the wasted energy when you can’t find your gardening tools or aids in a crowded garden shed or garage.

For small gardening tools and gardening aids, bucket and hanging organizers are ideal. Hanging organizers have numerous small pockets in which you can store small items. These are a good option because they make good use of wall space that would normally go to waste. Once the fall season is over and the garden clean-up is complete, clean all your gardening hand tools. Organize them so you can easily locate things when spring comes next year.

There are plastic organizers designed specifically for brooms, mops, and the like. These have slots in assorted sizes that hold the handles. I’ve found these are a good way to store long handled garden tools, such as hoes, rakes, spades, forks, and the like. Clean these before you put them away for the year.

Before storing fertilizers, make sure these are in leak-proof containers.

Organization also extends to other small gardening items like seeds, garden photos, gardening articles, and clippings you’ve been saving.

Galison has all kinds of desktop and filing solutions to help you get organized. For your desk, Galison has nifty new pencil holders. These stylish, collapsible pencil holders come two to a pack. The greyboard is 100% recycled. This new item is available in various garden themes. These include William Morris Petals and Vines, Midnight Bloom, and Henry Road.

For storing garden magazines, nothing beat’s Galison’s attractive magazine holders. These collapsible holders come three per set. The pack also includes a sheet of color-coordinated labels. The garden themes include Garden Party, William Morris Clover, and Andy Warhol Happy Butterfly Day.

For storing garden clippings, photos, and the like, Galison offers many options. If you already have a filing system set up, Galison has lovely garden-themed file folders. For fall, they’ve added two new designs. These include Henry Road and the Midnight Bloom. The set has eight folders, two in each of
the four designs. It also has 20 labels.

The fashionable Galison home-office file tote is a great storage option. This is useful for storing everything from seeds to garden photos and gardening records. It has eight roomy interior dividers. With an elastic closure and a sturdy die cut handle, this has lots of space for storing items. This comes with 16 labels. For fall 2009 Galison has added Midnight Bloom and Henry Road file totes.

I like to organize my gardening catalogs alphabetically in magazine holders so I can quickly locate the ones I need. To mark the appropriate pages, I use Galison’s Sticky Notes. These are part of Galison’s Home Office line. The set comes in a sturdy portfolio, and contain 480 sheets in assorted sizes and designs. For fall 2009 Galison has added several new garden themed Sticky Note sets. These include Midnight Bloom, Henry Road, and Monet Evening Water lilies.

For recording and organizing gardening notes, there’s nothing like the Galison accordion organizers. These are 6½ by 4 inches, and include a note pad and organizer. There are six expanding dividers to store garden notes and records. The notepad has 40 sheets of lined paper. This comes with a pencil holder and an elas
