Today I received an email to take a survey from PGA America with a series of question about how much I played golf this year and about the cost of playing and equipment bought. I like taking surveys and did not hesitate as I am eager to give my opinion on things and golf is no different as it is a big part of my life.
The way the survey ended was if I was involved in any event sponsored by Play Golf America that included free lessons, events etc. I had to say no as did not know anything about Play Golf America. In this survey it suggested that if you were not aware of this group to check out their web site and that is what I did. It also said to check out their Facebook site which I did and signed up as a Friend of their Facebook site as I am also a member. Facebook is an interesting site and had to leave some comments which I always love to give my opinion on whatever.
I was intrigued with the Play Golf America web site as it has a tremendous amount of information from where to play golf, instructions, women golfers, equipment suggestions and an array of sites to click on for more information. The first area I noticed was a blank area for you to type in your area code and it would find golf courses for you within a 10 mile radius. I had to try that and lo and behold the Mill Creek Golf Club came up the course where I live, Cool!
The section I click on was American Express Women’s Golf Month which showed it was the month of June. During this month you were to feature golf lessons or seminars in order to interest women to participate in golf. These are held nationwide and are suppose to be free as they are complimentary of the PGA and LPGA professionals to help players in instructions, golf rules and etiquette seminars. They even could be included with a club fitting and equipment demonstrations plus even a golf apparel fashion show, luncheons and contests. I like this and will look into this for next year as we have been talking about having a tea or luncheon to invite women in the community to become interested in golf.
I will bring it up to our Director of Golf and club Professional as I would need their approval to plan such an event. It is our hope to create more women to our golf club and find those that are interested in learning to play golf. With the exposure to lessons and special events it would help women to become involved in this great game. Since our golf season is from February to November we were hoping we could plan something like this in January in hope we could create more members to our Golf Association.
A good section on Play Golf America is the fitness section with good tips on stretching and warming up before that first tee shot. This is one thing I try to do before playing golf, I signed up for monthly range balls so I can go to the range and take some warm up shots also chipping and putting before each 18 holes. I think this exercise is what is keeping me healthy and limber at a ripe old age of 84 so I can continue to play this game.
Check out this web site at www.playgolfamerica.com and find suggestions to create more people to take up the game of golf. There are many areas you can click on listed under titles such as Quick Links, Featured Programs, Program Highlights and The Founders which include the PGA, LPGA, USGA plus more. I have put this site on my Favorites site so I can check in with them often.
The survey I took listed you could win a $500.00 gift certificate to a golf professional in your area. There would be five $100.00 certificates for second place. I never win these things but I love to give my opinion and enjoyed the survey. Hope you will check out www.playgolfamerica.com it is an interesting web site if you love golf.
