The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner is an endearing classic children’s book. This book is about four siblings. They are Henry, Jessie, Violet and baby, Benny. Their parents have died. The orphans hear their Grandfather who is now their guardian was mean to their mother. The brothers and sisters decide to remove themselves from the evil relative.
The orphans escape the Grandfather. They find themselves at a bakery and later in the woods. There in the woods, the foursome find a boxcar. The lowly boxcar becomes a home to the orphans. The resourceful children find a dump. In the dump, they find dishes, cups and silverware. The oldest, Henry becomes a handyman for Dr. Moore.
Best-selling American author, Gertrude Chandler Warner weaves a story of suspense which draws young readers into the mystery story. Ms. Warner is a benevolent spider who spins a web about the tween readers. The story is so fulfilling, that once the readers finish the story, they are willing to reenter the web time and time again. The books are a treasure chest of adventure and mystery.
Introduce the The Alden Family Mystery books series to your child. They are super chapter books. Let them visit the world populated by Benny, Violet, Jessie and Henry. My brothers and I loved the series. We imagined ourselves facing the world as creatively as the siblings.
