Body Art and Tattoos in the Movies

Here are a collection of movies and tv shows where tattooing and body art played a feature part. Nearly all movie tattoos are purely cosmetic, painted on with the latest, long-lasting makeup techniques. There are also many ways to make it seem someone has piercings when really they don't have any. Have any of these performances left their marks on you?

Constantine - Keanu Reeves sports a pair of mystic symbols on this forearms in this supernatural action film.

From Dusk Til Dawn - Seth (George Clooney) and Ritchie Gecko (Quentin Tarantino) are criminals on the run, who wind up in a Mexican bar full of vampires. See who manages to live to the end, and catch a glimpse of Clooney's character's tribal tattooed arm.

The Indian Runner - Viggo Mortensen plays a Vietnam veteran trying to have a normal life after his return home. His character is covered with the patchwork of tattoos that is the classic American tattoo collection.

Irezumi - This 1982 Japanese film follows a young lady as she gives in to her lover's wishes and allows her back to be tattooed. Tons of beautiful tattoos and classically-anguished drama.

The Piano - Harvey Keitel's part Maori character has some facial Moko in this award-winning film set on the South Island of New Zealand.

The Pillow Book - Tons of exotic and beautiful body painting fill director Peter Greenaway's tale of a Chinese woman who pursues her fantasy of having her lover paint on her. Be sure to follow through to the end for a stunning tattoo body suit image.

Prey For Rock and Roll - Gina Gershon had a hand in designing the many faux tattoos she wears in her portrayal of an aging female rocker.

Tattoo (1981) featured Maude Adams and Bruce Dern in a story about a tattoo artist whose infatuation with a fashion model leads to kidnapping and forcible tattooing.

Tattoo (2002) - This German thriller follows a pair of policeman on the trail of someone collecting tattooed skins done by a Japanese master.

Waterworld - Kevin Costner starred as a mutant in a post-apocalyptic scenario, searching for the last dry land on Earth. A Japanese tattoo on the back of a little girl named Enola holds the key...
