To start the week off right, I have Shannon K. Butcher’s Love You to Death (Grand Central) to share with you. Reporter Elise McBride knows something bad has happened to her younger sister Ashley, so she’s traveled all the way from Hong Kong to Illinois to find out what. Ashley’s gorgeous neighbor (and ‘sexy lawn guy’) Trent Brady knows Ashley is flighty, so he’s not convinced that something bad has happened to her, at least, not at first. But when Elise starts digging around into her sister’s life, and odd things start occurring around her, he doesn’t need any more persuading. But he really wants her to leave the investigating to the police. Trent used to be a cop, and an accident caused him to flee his job in Chicago to his hometown where he works for his brother in the family lawn care business. But even his family doesn’t fully understand why he doesn’t go back. He hasn’t shared all the details with anyone. Until Elise. From the start, these two share some serious chemistry, and when they finally give in, it’s explosive. It’ll take a lot longer, though, for Trent to realize what he’s been missing out on since The Incident in Chicago. This one is terrific, as I knew it would be (which is why I saved it for later in the month, as incentive to read through some books I wasn’t sure of), with a yummy hero who’ll do whatever it takes to protect and save his woman, and a heroine who really can take care of herself. Then there’s the lunatic villain whose point of view you’ll see all along the way, and who is seriously creepy. Even flighty Ashley turns out to be a lot stronger than one would have expected when she needs to be. I’m giving this one four and a half of Cupid’s five arrows. I couldn’t put it down, so it’s a definite keeper.
