"Power Can Be Held
In The Smallest Of Things"

At last!!! Finally someone has taken the incredible works of J.R.R. Tolkien, his mythical world of Middle Earth, and created a masterpiece equivalent to the books. The first attempt in the late 70īs was an abysmal abomination in film making and adaptation.

The Lord of the Rings, along with the Hobbit, launched the modern phenomenon of the fantasy genre, yet for decades film talent was incapable or unwilling to renderer a justified adaptation of this world from paper to cinematography. Its full realization remained locked in the minds and imaginations of its fans, readers, and a handful of skilled painters. When the buzz first began of another film rendering of this epic, I remained skeptical. I had traveled the path of enthusiasm before but to be met with disappointment.

I am more the pleased to say that Peter Jackson has exceeded all of my hopes and expectations in conveying to screen Tolkienīs masterpiece. In my summation, it is obvious that Jackson is a fan himself and has finally succeeded in bringing visual life to a world so well loved by its readers. He conveys not only his passion of the material but his understanding of it as well. As with any adapted to screen certain liberties and omissions are taken from the original tale but none in my opinion compromises it. The film presents the epic, captivating, and adventurous aspects of the work perfectly.

Jacksonīs wise use of talented, yet mostly obscure actors, allows the material of the piece, the settings, characters, and situations of Middle Earth to take precedence. No one ego dominates the film. The individual interactions of each character translates to screen the ensemble aspect of the story. Each has a part to play yet each are a part of the whole.

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring tops my list of films for 2001 and ranks in the top 5 of my all time favorite films ever made. It is a monumental achievement to finally see this work captivated on screen. It is history in the making, a new standard and precedence for all future fantasy related films. Donīt miss it in the theater!!
