Generally, if you want to find a place to eat or meet near the metro, you have several options, from wmata.com (the Washington metropolitan area transit website) to places like BellaOnline.com that give you unbiased opinion and information about the best things to see and do. On a recent shopping trip, I stumbled upon a traveler's gem that puts the information at your fingertips. The book is titled Let’s Meet Near Metro and features a handful of places you can find near selected metro stops.

Admittedly, today, the book is outdated and does not include all the new restaurants and bars that have popped up since the book was published. It does not mention, for instance, all the great finds you can discover in Rockville because the downtown area where the station stop stands had not yet been developed. However, in the book, you will find all the places in the Washington D.C. metro area that have become local icons. Establishments that have been around for a decade or more like Eastern Market’s Bread and Chocolate, Guapo’s at Tenleytown, and Georgia Brown at McPherson Square are all listed.

To gather whether a place you’d like to visit is still open or not, simply call using the contact information in the book. You can also look online.

Travelers will find, however, that the best way to use the book is to carry it along with you as you explore the city. Pop it out when you are hungry or need a place to stay and find a location nearest to the metro where you are. People who like to travel without itineraries will find this book indispensible.
