I had a rude awakening just the other night. I was on the phone with a cousin, and I was asked if I knew what Acai was? I replied that it was currently being praised for it’s very high antioxidant value among its other valuable nutritional content. Not the answer he was looking for, he continued by asking if I remember ever having any of this fruit when I lived in Guyana. I responded no Well, you can just imagine my astonishment when he informed me that it was actually one of my favorite childhood fruits, and that is it known by a different name in our country. He was talking about “Jamoon.” One of my favorites fruits during my childhood years.
Here in America, Acai or Jamoon is being touted for many healthful properties. It is also being touted as something only found in Brazil. This is absolutely not true. Is this another advertising gimmick? I can just picture the slogan, “Eat Acai and look like the Brazilian Women,” or am I correct in assuming that Brazil is not only taking the praise for its beautiful women, now they’re claiming fruit. That’s where I draw the line! Beautiful girls come from every part of the world and while Brazil does have its fair share of beautiful women, Acai/Jamoon isn’t only found there. As a matter of fact my United Nations of girl friends may take up issue with this very subject. On one hand some may tout their own fruits with benefits of health and beauty from their country of origin, while others may take on the topic of which country have the most beautiful women. On the origin of this fruit, it can be found in many countries in the Caribbean, and other parts of the world. I’ve heard it’s also grown in India. Well how about that? Would that account for the beauty of Indian girls?
And what about American girls, what fruits do they eat? Just look around your neighborhood, as I do in mine. In New York City, they streets aren’t laden with gold, it’s flanked by gorgeous women. I wonder if they eat Acai or Jamoon? I am currently working on the findings of that information for interested persons.
You can find this Acai/Jamoon in the freezer section in many health food stores, and some supermarkets. Or, you can have some fresh off the tree on your next Caribbean or (Hmm!) Brazilian vacation. Just don’t believe that you’ll come back looking like Giselle Bunchen.
