There are many ways one can celebrate Valentine’s Day. This occasion is now popular around the world. Here are some ideas for this special holiday.

Decorate the backs of wooden dining chairs with swags of flowers. These can be fresh or dried. They need not be roses. Color schemes with red or pink are especially suitable, but aren’t essential.

Experiment with unusual containers. If you sew, create a pink or red pillow with a heart-shaped pouch or pocket. Inside the pouch, insert some short stemmed dried flowers. You can sometimes find heart pillows with pockets in stores.

Decorate a straw hat to display on Valentine’s Day. Stencil some red or pink hearts around the top of the brim. Adorn the hat with some red, pink or white everlastings. Then, add a coordinating bow and ribbon.

For decorating dining tables, there are lots of festive ways this can be done for Valentine’s Day parties. In lieu of a traditional centerpiece, try some non-typical designs. Take a cut glass plate, and in the center put a very short vase containing two short stemmed dusky red roses. Be sure the flowers conceal the vase. On either side of the roses place a sprig of white baby’s breath. Twist a short strand of white organza ribbon, and place this beside one of the baby’s breath sprigs. Finally, set a small votive candle in a holder on the plate. Just be sure the candle flame doesn’t touch the flowers or the ribbon.

Rather than using one large centerpiece, create several small identical small designs that can be placed along the center of the table. Pink vases would work very well for this. Flowers might include pink baby’s breath, and white or ivory roses.

Instead of the usual fresh cut flowers, create a Valentine’s wreath. A moss covered wreath form works very well. Add some dried pink everlastings at regular intervals, leaving space in between for ribbon. Now, take some sheer pink ribbon and wrap this around the wreath between the flowers. Tie the ends of the ribbon into a bow on the bottom of the wreath.

The cyclamens are at their best during the cool months of the year. For that reason, they make a good cut flower for Valentine’s Day. These come in an amazing palette of suitable colors for this holiday, including many kinds of reds and pinks as well as purples and whites. Some are on the verge of being neon, so shop carefully. These have a lovely, delicate looking shape.
