Spring Floral Ideas

In spring the world laughs in flowers. There are many kinds of seasonal flowers during this wonderful season.

The pastels have long been favorites for this time of year. In addition, we have vivid colored spring flower bulbs in about every color of the rainbow. Some tulips and hellebores are almost black. Many of the spring bulbs come in
hot colors with tulips in every shade of red and the sunny yellow daffodils.

The blues and purples also have their place in spring arrangements. My favorites by far are the grape hyacinths as well as the hyacinths along with the anemones.

While pink is a good color for spring, this need not be pastel pink. The Country Living February 2006 magazine had a trend-setting hot pink arrangement. This used hot pink roses with dark pinkish-red callas along with some pastel green flowers. This was arranged in a Fresco pink pitcher, and the result was just stunning.

For spring, one of my favorite designs is still the traditional May basket. May Day was originally celebrated in England. However, it fell out of favor in the American colonies. In a few communities around the U.S., people still dance around the May Pole and create May baskets.

These special baskets were particularly popular among children. The custom was for them to collect wildflowers of all sorts and arrange these informally in the basket. Ferns were used for greenery. Then the baskets were hung on the door of the recipient. Nowadays violets and pansies are favorites for these spring arrangements.

All sorts of baskets, including ceramic ones, are suitable for May Day baskets. These can be decorated by weaving spring-themed ribbon in between the slats of the basket. Or decorate the handle with spring-hued ribbons and streamers. The basket can also be stenciled with spring colors or spring motifs.

In addition to the traditional basket, wall pouches are very suitable for spring. These can be filled with all sorts of seasonal flowers.

For a simple informal spring design choose some ivory or pink roses. Then, add some other pink and white seasonal flowers along with some greenery. For a container, select a tall glass cylinder, which should be filled with stones or
pastel colored glass beads.

Pastel polka dots are a classic look for spring. You can add your own polka dots to solid colored vases and other containers. Dots add a delicate looking touch to a floral design. Instead of decorating the containers, another option is to choose ribbons with polka dots.
