Early Immigrant Count in Tennessee

The state of Tennessee had many immigrants living within its boundries between 1850-1930. With the Mississippi River flowing through the western boundary of Tennessee, many immigrants found Memphis and other river cities as their home. They gradually moved futher into Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and other states.

The countries that had the most residents in Tennessee were England, Ireland and Germany. France, Africa and China had just a few living within the Tennessee bounadaries. Tennessee has continued to be a state with a deep presence from other countries from Mexico to Canada. Alot of these residence became naturalized and United States citizens. They saw that the state of Tennessee had alot to offer and continued to live and raise their families there.

Below is the census count for the state of Tennessee for each of those census years. Then each country's count of residents that lived in Tennessee is shown. For example, in 1860 there were 381 Italians that lived in the state of Tennessee.
