New York Immigration Ports

Immigration brought a lot of our ancestors to New York. A lot of immigrants migrated on through the United States, but some decided to make New York their home. New York has sixty-two counties making it the third most populated state. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and the country of Canada. The largest cities are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, Syracuse, and the largest city also in the United States, New York City.

The major ethnic groups in New York are African Americans, Italians, Hispanics, Irish and German. The catholic religion comprised most of the people, followed by Protestants, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists and others at a smaller percentage.

New York was a major immigration port. Some of the ports used were
