Your Core Values and Money

Core money values are those unconscious wants and desires that powerfully drive our day-to-day finances. These core values influence earning, spending and savings potential. Let’s take a closer look at how core values affect our relationship with money.

You shop, spend, earn, enjoy and save according to your most predominant core money values. What you believe about yourself accepting and enjoying money is largely attributed to these unconscious values.

What is a core money value? It is the single most important belief you have about the word “money.” A core value is more emotional than intellectual because it has an unconscious hold over your thoughts, decisions and actions.

Your core money values are uniquely yours. They were formed in childhood, nurtured through the teen years and have taken root as an adult. Core values are deeply rooted in the unconscious mind. Most of the time you’re not even aware of how these powerful values are directing and guiding your life.

Here’s an exercise to help determine some of your core money values. Carve out half an hour of quiet time and take out pen and paper or a favorite journal. Try to clear your mind of the things you “should be doing” and just enjoy being in the here and now. If it helps, play relaxing music softly in the background.

At the top of the page write, “I Want Money To Help Me…”

Now, list all the ways in which having more than enough money will help you and your loved ones live a happy, healthy, abundant and wealthy life. The sky is the limit. List without placing limitations on your earning or savings potential.

After fifteen minutes or so, stop writing and take a good long look at what you’ve written.
* Are you surprised by what you want?
* Are you excited and enthused by what you’ve written?
* Are you fearful or anxious of the words on the paper?

The powerful inner desires you’ve just written on your sheet of paper are excellent indicators of your core money values.

For example:
~ If the majority of sentences and words are about your desire is to enjoy and share money with your loved ones and friends, then your core value is probably one of giving, sharing and helping.

~ If the majority of sentences and words are about the negative consequences of having money, then your core value is probably one of struggle, hardship and discomfort.

~If the majority of sentences and words are about your desire to improve your own life and the life of others, then your core value is probably one of optimism, enjoyment and belief in the positive power of money.

How you “want” money to impact the quality of your life is a powerful insight into your most predominant core financial values. Your core values unconsciously control your day-to-day relationship with abundance and wealth. Whether you earn more, spend more or save more is determined by the value you are placing on your personal association with money.

Clarity equals the power to make good financial decisions. Recognizing your core money values can prove to be a powerful success tool.
