The Bliss Factor

Hello, and welcome back! Our snowstorm fizzled out here, sadly. We got little more than a dusting and a whole lot of wind. Now the sun is out, and the dusting will be melted away probably before the day is over, leaving the ugly, dirty mess from earlier in the month. But I'm still holding out hope for a bigger snowfall here. After all, winter isn't over for nearly a month. But in the meantime, I'm working my way through the review stack when I'm not writing.

This time out, I have the latest from one of my favorite authors, Penny McCall, The Bliss Factor (Berkley). She's an auto-buy for me, ever since her very first book several years ago, so when this one was due out, it was on the top of my shopping list when I hit the bookstore at the beginning of February. Rae Blissfield hated her childhood, traveling from Ren Faire to Ren Faire with her artisan parents, so when she grew up, she wanted something stable and dependable. Now she's an accountant, but her parents have asked her to come help them out, and she can't possibly say no. Connor Larkin is working the Ren Faire undercover as a blacksmith, but he's really on the hunt for a counterfeiter. Until he loses his memory, that is, and then things really get interesting. Connor is definitely not the sort of man Rae wants in her life, the kind of person she grew up with, rootless and restless, but she can't seem to resist the sexy blacksmith, even when they have to go on the run. When his memory comes back, the danger multiplies, not just for him, but for Rae as well. I just love Penny McCall's books. She always has such engaging characters, flawed and imperfect enough to make you believe they're real, and stories filled with humor and heat along with the suspense. This one is a terrific addition to my McCall shelf, and if you're looking for a good read that'll make you laugh and cry and hate to reach the end, you should pick this one up, too. I'm borrowing four and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one. Now I'll be impatiently waiting for her next release.

Until next time, happy reading!
