Home Service Business Ideas

Home service businesses range from large corporations to one-person operations, and they can be home-based businesses, too. Even though you will work outside the home providing your services, you can run the business from your home.

Home service businesses are businesses that specialize in providing a service to homes. Many people make very lucrative incomes in these service businesses. People are very busy these days and prefer to spend their free time with family and friends or on other activities and hobbies instead of doing the work themselves.

Here are some examples of the many possibilities for home service businesses:

Lawn services: Every aspect of tending to lawns is a potential service business. You may choose to offer one, more or all of these services in your business. Mowing, weed-removal, edging, planting and tending to flower beds, and applying fertilizer are some lawn care business services you could offer.

Pool and hot tub maintenance: Pool and hot tub maintenance can include cleaning, testing and adjusting chemical levels to maintain a safe water profile, checking equipment, and depending on your skills and expertise could even include more specialized pool services such as acid washes or tile work.

Specialty Cleaning Services: Specialty cleaning means that you clean things not normally covered in routine house cleaning. There are many options you can specialize in cleaning, including:

Windows
Blinds
Gutters and downspouts
Garages and attics
Detailed oven or fridge cleaning
Air ducts
Carpets
Upholstery
Grout

Home Decor Services: Many people need help with sprucing up their interiors. You can start a business based on several types of home décor services such as interior or exterior painting, putting up wallpaper, hanging drapes or installing blinds, helping with holiday or seasonal decorations or even rearranging furniture.

If you have experience in these areas, you could easily start a business to help out home owners by providing these services. You can of course start your business part time and build it up at your own pace before launching a full-time business.

Finding Business: Once you have decided to start your business, begin spreading the word. Tell your friends, family and associates about your business and ask them to help tell others about it. Print up flyers and order business cards to give out.

You can use social media to market your business for free, too. Start twittering or a Facebook page for your business.

Once you start getting clients, provide excellent service and ask them for testimonials or referrals that can help you grow your business.

You can also network with local businesses in order to build relationships that can lead to referrals. For instance, if you do pool work, a lawn care provider might be able to refer you to some of her customers needing pool services.
