Author Irene Kendig on the afterlife

Conversations with Jerry and Other People I Thought Were Dead
Seven compelling dialogues that will transform the way you think about dying... and living by Irene Kendig

I will admit that since I was a child, I have been interested in what the dead had to say about the afterlife. Of course growing up in a pretty religious family, we didn't talk about it at all because it was just assumed that when someone died, if they were a Christian, they went to a heaven with streets of gold.

Since then I've done a lot of growing, and had several experiences with loved ones who had passed on (some Christian, some not), but never had any real validation about my experiences.

Then I ran across a book titled "Conversations with Jerry and Other People I Thought Were Dead" by Irene Kendig and she was kind enough to send me a copy to review.

"Conversations with Jerry and Other People I Thought Were Dead" is a collection of conversations between Irene and seven of her loved ones (who had already passed over) via a medium (someone who can hear spirits and relay their messages) known as Jana Anna.

From the moment I opened this book I felt as if I were receiving the validation I'd always wanted with my prior experiences, but never gotten.

This book brought a level of comfort to me that I didn't know I could receive (or that I even needed). I think so many of us live in fear; fear of not being good enough, fear of living and fear of dying, and these fears color the way we live our lives.

"We learn to be afraid and fear distracts us from the truth." Jerry - page 59

Through these seven dialogues, Irene (and her spirit friends) show us that yes, there is something happening after death, and what these seven spirits have been experiencing in the after life can help us in the life we are living right now.

"The most important belief you can hold is that the universe is loving and beneficent and that all transitions are moving you toward a greater capacity to give and receive love." Jerry - Page 112

One of the conversations I found most interesting was with the spirit known as Bill who had committed suicide at the age of 35.

"I didn't know how to end my suffering any other way. I didn't feel part of my family or community; I was always on the outside, looking in. From my perspective, as someone isolated and cut off from the nourishment of love, life had already ended." Bill - page 219.

As Bill shares his story, it becomes very clear that one of the most important things we can do while we are here is to love - to give love every chance we get.

The greatest gift I received from this book was how important it is to let go of past regrets. I used to believe that if I'd only done this, or eaten that, or moved there, my life would have been perfectly fabulous. These misconceptions kept me from living in the moment and moving forward from where I am now, with what I have now.

"When I made choices that supported my original intention, my life force was strengthened. When I worried about what others thought of me and made decisions based on their opinions, my life force weakened." Bill - page 233

This was something else that really hit me! How often do we make choices based on what we think someone else thinks of us? When we live our lives for others, we are never going to find fulfillment and peace. We will always be striving to make sure others like and appreciate us while ignoring the call of our soul to live authentically.

I know that this book may seem far fetched to many people, but that doesn't mean it doesn't contain much wisdom. If after death all we are is dust, isn't it better that we lived with love, that we were able to forgive ourselves and others, and really make a difference in the lives of those we touched?

"Conversations with Jerry and Other People I Thought Were Dead" reminds us that each moment matters and every choice we make matters. Their lessons from the afterlife teach us to live with love and forgiveness right now.
