Montana Legacy

Hello, and welcome back! We're in the midst of a stretch of absolutely gorgeous spring weather, and here spring is just starting. Of course, the weather isn't supposed to stay this warm, which often happens when the seasons change. That's okay with me, though, as I still have plenty of reading material to keep me busy indoors for a while, until I can do a little digging in the dirt. I've also been keeping busy during my (hopefully temporary) unemployment with writing, which I've missed tremendously.

Montana Legacy(Grand Central, received from publisher) by R. C. Ryan, aka Ruth Ryan Langan starts a new trilogy featuring the McCord cousins. In this one, Jesse McCord is not very happy to have his two cousins back after the death of their grandfather, an eccentric old man who believed to his dying day that there was a treasure buried on the ranch. Jesse stayed on the family ranch while everyone else went off to new lives, but his grandfather has left the ranch to the three of them. Also back in town is Jesse's first love Amy Parrish. Amy broke Jesse's heart when she left town years ago, and he's not inclined to forgive easily, no matter if she's back because her father is sick or not. But Amy will be sticking around a while to deal with her dad's medical issues, and she is around more often than is safe for Jesse's heart, and definitely far too long for his hormones to resist her. They do their own hunting for the McCord family gold, and it's inevitable that old feelings will rekindle, right? Jesse is a far different adult than the adorable, and very likable young boy readers find in the prologue, and it takes a while to warm up to the adult Jesse. Amy's father isn't any happier now about their relationship than he was years ago, however, which makes it difficult for Amy to really let down the walls she's built around her heart to keep Jesse out, and her father is willing to interfere to keep them apart, if he can. Fans of Ruth Ryan Langan will most likely love this shift from her usual historical to contemporary romance. I liked it, but I don't know that I'd say I loved it. I am looking forward to digging into his cousin's story, also sitting here in my stack of books for next month. I'm borrowing three of Cupid's five arrows for this one.

Until next time, happy reading!
