JQuery Slideshow by Jon Raasch

Animated jQuery slideshows are all over the web. A slideshow is a great way to display a lot of images within a small space on a website. When I design a website for a small business, I usually suggest a slideshow to display "featured products" in the online store. It makes a great first statement.

My clients cannot afford on-going maintenance fees for their website. So, I have searched the web to find a jQuery slideshow script that, once installed, can be easily maintained by my clients. The script that I found is the Simple jQuery Slideshow by Jon Raasch. Jon is so very nice to offer it free under the FreeBSD license.

This script has a small "footprint" that can be quickly added into a webpage with one SCRIPT SCR tag. The supporting css file is very simple to understand and only takes a LINK tag to call into the webpage. So, with just two simple lines of code in the header and a DIV for the slideshow images, you can use Jon's script.

Of course, as part of designing your clients new website, you will create the first set of images and install them in the folder for the slideshow. However, most clients do want the ability to change the images themselves. With Jon's script, it's simple to change the images in the slideshow without changing the script. Your client can upload the new images and name them img1.jpg, img2.jpg and so on. The order of the images determines their order in the rotation.

If you use the link below, you can read Jon's tutorial about how he created his simple slideshow script. But for those digital artists that cringe at the sight of code, he also gives a download link for the working script and simple instructions for using it on a website.

Jon Raasch is a front-end web developer and designer specializing in SEO, CMS, CSS, HTML, PHP, MySQL, AJAX, jQuery and JavaScript. He has tested his script thoroughly and you can be confident that it will work for your clients. Jon is a multi-talented individual. Besides his technical knowledge, he's a photographer and enjoys writing poetry and short stories.

Thank you Jon for a great script.
