Savor the Moment

Hello, and welcome back! Our absolutely gorgeous weather from last week is gone, and we've been left with unpleasant heat and humidity, a preview, I'm sure of this summer. That doesn't make me especially happy. But tomorrow should be nicer, so a friend and I are going to spend part of the day wandering around at Longwood Gardens enjoying the spring flowers and the sunshine.

This time out, I have the latest from Nora Roberts, Savor the Moment (Berkley), which I picked up a few weeks ago when she did her last signing in Maryland, about a week and a half before the book was actually released in most bookstores. I went with a small group of friends this time, and we were reading the book while we waited in line for our group's turn in the signing room. This is the third book in the Bride Quartet, and this one belongs to Laurel McBane, who creates the most amazing cakes for the weddings at Vows, which she and her three best friends own. Laurel has had a thing for her friend Parker's brother Delaney Brown for a long time, but he's been out of her league for many years. But Del pushes just the right buttons to make Laurel decide she's going for it anyway, which just might complicate things more than she ever imagined. There are some real laugh-out-loud moments in this one, especially early on, as we discovered while waiting in line for the booksigning. But these are characters anyone might expect to meet on the street, or at the supermarket, or anywhere you go. That is truly Ms. Roberts's best strength, is that creating of characters readers can really believe in. She is a master at that, and Laurel and Del are no exception. Through all the twists and turns of their deepening relationship, with the side trips of friends and family, readers will be falling in love right along with them, and when their happy ending finally arrives, may even shed a tear or two of happiness. I always do, but I'm kind of a softie. I've been dying since I finished this back on April 17th to get my hands on the final book in the series, but, alas, we have to wait until November for that one. In the meantime, though, we get a new romantic suspense in July from Ms. Roberts, and perhaps, even the joy of re-reading the first three books in the Bride Quartet just before the final installment. I'm borrowing four and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one. I hated to get to the end.

Until next time, happy reading!
