Looking for a gift for that special gardener in your life? Here are some ideas, many of which will last throughout the gardening season and beyond.
Gardening books are great resources. Find a book related to a specific type of garden that your recipient might enjoy, such as gardens for small spaces, water gardens, vegetable or herb gardening, or gardening succulents, or a general gardening reference book.
A magazine subscription is a gift a gardener can enjoy all year. Some of my favorites include Fine Gardening, Garden Design and Better Homes and Gardens.
Always appreciated, a gift card or certificate to a nursery, garden-supply company, or seed catalog lets the recipient choose his or her own gift. Many companies have online catalogs so your gift can be enjoyed immediately. Seed and plant catalogs will ship plants or seeds when it's appropriate to plant them in the recipient's grow zone, but in most cases they can order the products any time of year.
The Old Farmer's Almanac is the quintessential reference for gardeners and farmers alike. It's a reference the recipient will turn to throughout the year, to learn not only the weather predictions but also strange-but-true tidbits as well.
Professional Organization Memberships
A membership to the American Horticulture Society can benefit gardeners of all levels. One of the nation's oldest gardening organizations in the country, the AHS connects gardeners around the world, provides gardening education for all levels of skill, information on any garden subject imaginable, gardening events and activities, and more.
The Arbor Day Foundation's vision is "... a world where trees and forests are abundant, healthy, and sustainable, and highly valued by all people." The organization is known for its service, especially for tree replacement and reforestation. Purchase trees, shrubs, merchandise and more on their website. A membership includes 10 free trees, plus a newsletter and more.
Page-a-day and monthly wall calendars are great gifts. There are calendars available for any interest - travel, regions, types of plants, or even the Farmers Almanac daily calendar. It's a great way for the recipient to enjoy gardening all year round.
