The book contains many very useful ideas for dealing with job loss and job searching, and disappointment. It employs Ms. Jones’ knowledge of psychology as well as inspirational and motivational methods. Readers are shown how to discover their own greatest talents and how to create a Life Mission Statement. The personality traits of Fire (translated into leadership skills), Earth (grounding, good habits and character development), Water (relationship skills), and Wind, (creativity and innovation) are explored and related to skills that are useful to the market place.
“Jesus Career Counselor” is easy to read and not time consuming at 256 pages. I found it helpful that each chapter was self-contained in a stand alone lesson and contained a useful self-quiz at the end enabling the reader to immediately put the information to use. Ms Jones has also included suggested prayers for the different situations.
While Laurie Beth Jones provides sound, time-proven principles for finding employment from a secular perspective I did not find any great spiritual lessons, such as the title suggests. With the name of Jesus in the title, I hoped to find theologically sound teaching on the subject. As it is, I suggest reading the book for the useful points I’ve mentioned above but not for spiritual insight.
The author, Laurie Beth Jones is an internationally recognized bestselling author, speaker, life coach, business development coach and trainer. She has conducted training sessions and provided leadership material for major companies such as Tyson Foods, Purina-Nestle, Neiman Marcus, Pfizer, Citi Financial and American Express
