Fade to Midnight

Hello, and welcome back! The miserable hot and sticky weather we were having has gone away, at least for a couple of days, and it's absolutely gorgeous outside now. Not too hot, not too cool. Kind of like spring. It makes me very, very happy. I may even take the laptop outside later to work, just because I can. Or perhaps one of the June romances sitting here on the corner of my desk.

I have a couple of June romances waiting to share with you already, including a hilariously funny one for next time. But this time, I have the latest from Shannon McKenna, Fade to Midnight (Brava), her first in hardcover. I have enjoyed Ms. McKenna's work since her very first book a number of years ago, and I couldn't wait for this one to come out. I snagged a copy at work as soon as it was released, then brought it home to dive in. Kev Larsen has no memory of his life before a brutal beating that left him near death eighteen years ago. Edie Parrish's family is difficult, to put it nicely, and when her life takes an abrupt turn, putting her in Kev's path, both of them will be changed in ways neither could have expected. Someone wants Edie out of the picture and will stop at nothing to make it happen, and Kev is equally determined not to let anyone hurt her ever again. With the help of the family he'd lost, he might be able to outwit a madman and keep her alive. With a little luck, they might even find a happily ever after to rival his brothers'. When a reader picks up a Shannon McKenna title, they expect great suspense and seriously hot, sexy heroes. This one has both, and wow, she just gets better and better. Kev is a seriously wounded hero, but that doesn't stop him from falling right in love with Edie. Edie has tall, thick walls around her heart, but Kev is exactly the right man to bring them tumbling down. For fans of McKenna's previous books, this is a terrific chance to revisit characters from those stories while falling madly in love with Kev and Edie. It's also a fantastic suspense story right along with the romance, one that will have you holding your breath while reading, hoping for the proper outcome. Not that there's any doubt about that, but she does this so well, you can't help yourself. I adored Kev, so much I can't now name one favorite McKenna hero. I'm borrowing four and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one. And hoping Ms. McKenna is writing quickly enough that we'll have something else to read by her soon.

Until next time, happy reading!
