Fujita Reiji, the main character of the series, owns a gallery on the wharf of Tokyo Bay called Gallery Fake. Fujita was once a curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; however, due to issues at the workplace, he was forced to leave his job. Now, Fujita is an art dealer who sells both authentic and fake paintings at extraordinary prices. He is also an expert at restoring paintings, and he has the ability to tell if a painting is real or a fake. Fujita also has a smoking habit.
Sara Halifa is Reiji's assistant, even though she is not knowledgeable about art. She has a crush on Reiji, and accompanies him on his trips. Sara is an optimistic person, but she has a somewhat childish personality. Sara adopts a stray cat, which she will often use to attack Fujita. Even though she may use the cat to attack him sometimes, Sara will always defend Fujita if someone talks badly about him.
Mitamura is the director at the Takada Art Museum. She is stiff, confident, and works a lot. Mitamura doesn't think very highly of Reiji; in fact, she believes that Fujita will destroy the art, instead of helping it. Fei Cui is a jewelry thief, and she often calls Fujita about the items that she's stolen. Sara doesn't like Fei, and will become angry if Fujita goes to visit her.
There's not a lot of action in Gallery Fake, but it's still an interesting anime to watch, due to the drama that takes place between the characters in the art world. The animation is also very well-done for an anime series. Content-wise, there's nothing objectionable in the series that younger viewers can't see. However, due to the subject matter (the business of the art world) and the pacing of the storytelling, younger viewers may become bored rather quickly if they try to watch this series. Personally, I would recommend Gallery Fake to anime viewers who are 13 or 14 years of age and older.
