Air Gear

Air Gear is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Ito "Oh Great" Ogure.

The main focus of the series is inline skating. In Air Gear, they use Air Trecks, which are inline skates that have a special motor installed into them. Some users of the Air Trecks have become teams; collectively, all the teams are known as Storm Riders.

Itsuki "Ikki" Minami is the main character in Air Gear. He's a delinquent, as well as the leader of a youth gang going by the name of "East Side Gunz." Ikki's nickname is the "Unbeatable Babyface." One day, after being humiliated by a Storm Rider team called the Skull Saders, he discovers that the Noyamano sisters (who are his benefactors) have hidden a secret from him. It turns out the sisters are part of a Storm Riders team called Sleeping Forest. Ikki takes a pair of Air Trecks without asking, finds that he enjoys using them, and ends up becoming involved with the Storm Riders. To start out, he finds himself at a "big meeting" of the Storm Riders, and accidentally challenges the Skull Saders to another battle.

Mikan Noyamano is the second oldest of the sisters. She's a tomboyish girl, and is the disciplinarian. Ringo Noyamano is a kind and studious girl that wears glasses; she also has an infatuation for Ikki. Shiraume Noyamano (who is better known as Ume) is the youngest of the sisters. She tends to be quiet and passive compared to her sisters, and she has eccentric tastes.

At the beginning of the series, Ikki watches a girl named Simca as she practices on her Air Trecks. Simca starts out being rather carefree, is a bit of a flirt, and she doesn't take the Storm Riders very seriously. Ikki finds himself interested in her.

Ikki eventually creates his own team with his friends, Kazu and Onigiri.

Air Gear is an anime series that is not being aimed at a younger audience; in fact, the English dub carries an MA rating. There is some nudity shown in the series, both in the Japanese and in the English dub. The English dub for the series also has quite a bit of swearing included in the dialogue. Personally, I would recommend Air Gear to anime viewers who are 17 or 18 years of age and older.
