Our home is where we dine, sleep, relax, laugh, raise our families and create wonderful memories. We want to be sure our homes are naturally clean. Harsh chemicals found in most cleaning products harm our health. The natural ways to keep our homes clean are endless, but here are a few to get you started.
1. Keep your shoes at the front door. After walking outside all day on sidewalks, through offices, or the market, germs, grease, oils and other chemicals walk home with us. Simply keeping your shoes at the front door will help to prevent any of those chemicals or bacteria from getting into the fibers of your carpet. If you work hard to keep those chemicals out, donít bring them in through your shoes. If you have an outdoor covered patio, let your shoes rest there.
2. Let the air and sunshine in! Open your windows as much as possible. Natural sunlight is better for the health of your eyes and losing lamps and lighting less saves on electricity which helps the environment overall. Allowing the outside breeze to blow in rich with oxygen to cleanse and release any indoor pollutants that can gather in furniture materials or carpet fibers is an easy way to clear the air. Not only will your lungs thank you, your house will feel fresher as well as your mood.
3. Clean up your home with an all natural mix - baking soda and vinegar. Simply mix 1/2 cup of white vinegar with 1/4 cup baking soda and a 1/2 gallon of water. You can use this concoction to clean water deposits in the shower, windows, mirrors, and countertops. Isnít it wonderful that this particular cleaning product doesnít contain any hard to pronounce, unknown chemical names?! You can also sprinkle baking soda on the carpet before vacuuming to help to absorb odors. This will lend to a fresh smell in your home.
4. The clothes you wear are susceptible to spread unhealthy chemicals, especially if you have those clothes dry-cleaned, which utilizes formaldehyde and perchloroethylene, both harmful chemicals. Instead, opt for a local cleaner that uses carbon dioxide cleaning or Green Earth for your clothes. These methods will not contain harmful chemicals.
5. Last, but not least, plants help to filter air and create more oxygen, so get some green on in your home with some lovely additions to your family. Look for a broader leaf green plant to help with the air filtering process. Good choices are the Peace Lily, Spider Plant, English Ivy, or an Elephant Ear Philodendron.
