Dangerous Desires

Hello, and welcome back! We're getting a little break from the heat with some rain here. Not a lot of rain, but maybe tomorrow we'll get more. The grass is rather brown and crunchy, even after the rain we had early on Saturday. Too much heat and not nearly enough moisture; not a good combination for summer. Needless to say, I've been spending a lot of time reading as we're still indoors unless we're absolutely forced to go outside.

This time out, I have the latest from Dee Davis, Dangerous Desires (Grand Central, received from publisher), the next book in her A-Tac series. This time, Drake Flynn is still reeling from a betrayal on his last op when he heads into the Colombian jungle to retrieve Madeline Reynard. Madeline went years ago to save her addict sister, and now, after years of being blackmailed into working for a drug lord, she's got no further reason to comply with their demands and so wants out. Drake's team manages the escape, but without him and Madeline, who went off on her own when it looked as if things were going badly wrong, only to have them turn even worse for her. Drake saves the day, but this only feeds his general mistrust of attractive women, making their trek through the jungle more challenging. Yet Madeline is still keeping secrets, including one that neither realizes will affect them both down the road. I adore Dee Davis and was absolutely thrilled when the first book in this series came out after a long spell between books for her. This addition to the series is awesome. Both these characters are strong and appealing, with just enough flaws to keep them human and believable, and the twist late in this one will surprise even those of us who devour romantic suspense on a regular basis. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment in the series and hope it continues even after this initial trio. Drake and Madeline's romance is hot and tender, and the adventure in this might even make the most die-hard indoors-type think about a trip to the jungle, though preferably without the armed men on the hunt after them. I'm borrowing four and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one.

Until next time, happy reading!
